Sadly out trip has been cut short. For the last few weeks we have been in contact with Jenny’s family when her mother became ill. It was decided on the Sunday that Jenny and Lori should return to Australia as the situation rapidly declined. We were up at 3.00am calling the travel agent to arrange tickets home. The earliest flights available were on Wednesday thanks to the efforts of Chris and his fellow workers at the Burnside Flight Centre.

We spent the next two days travelling to Paris where they were to leave from. It was a pleasant drive and we stopped at the town of Aubigny-sur-Nere where we explored the town centre and the castle before spending the night in the aire. On the next day we drove towards Paris stopping at the Town of Fontainebleau where we walked around the chateau and the town centre. Overnight we stopped at a campsite close to Paris about 30 kilometres from the Airport.

That evening a phone call came with the dreaded news that Jenny’s mother had passed away in her sleep. It was not the ending to our trip that we expected and it was a very sad evening before Jenny and her sister Lori returned. I have just received a message that they have arrived safely and are now with their family.

After dropping them off at the airport I drove back to Holland taking me a day and a half, stopping at an aire overnight at the half way point. It was a strange experience driving without someone beside me in the passenger seat. I will be getting the motorhome unpacked and ready for winter storage then returning back to Australia when I can confirm a return flight. The photos shown in this blog were taken before we heard the bad news and we still hoped for the best.
I don’t want to leave the blog on a sad note and will write a further blog with the highlights of our trip. We did have an amazing time and visited places that few people have travelled to, meeting some great people and seeing sights that we will never forget.
If you look at our trip map of 2015 you will see the circle has been completed.

Hello, I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog, very interesting, inspiring and well written. We’ve just sold our caravan and are looking for a motorhome to travel around Europe , if we visit a fraction of the places you’ve been to we’ll be doing well !
Very sad your travels were cut short, please accept our condolences.
All the best,
Chris and Jane
