After 3 exhausting days trekking around Paris we postponed our visit to Versailles and decided a well-earned rest day was in order. After consulting our sources we found what looked like a suitable place; next to a small lake, about 30 kms on the out-skirts of Paris. Leaving at about 5.30 in the afternoon amid peak hour we reached our destination after about an hour. Apart from plenty of joggers it was indeed a quiet place and after the sun went down we were alone for the night. On Wednesday the 14th apart from a shopping expedition we relaxed and recharged our batteries. It was bad luck that we all forgot to bring our jogging shoes with us, otherwise we would have joined the fitness crew doing laps of the lake. (haha!)
Versailles
On Thursday [15th September] we drove the 25 kms to Versailles and after discovering that the main carpark had a height barrier we went around the block and found a park on a roadside very close to the entrance. Again this trip we have been lucky with finding places to stay and parking spots. I [Ewout] decided not to go into Versailles as we had been there only 3 years ago. Jenny and Lori ventured in and spent over 5 hours exploring the sites. I had a walk around the old part of town visiting the church and the bakery.
The girls arrived back at the Bunyip at around 5.30 in the afternoon after a busy day and then we proceeded to drive to Giverny. This is the town where Monet’s garden is and the carpark has a designated place for motor homes, which is free as well. We arrived and found an easy park along with the other motorhomes, had tea and relaxed after a busy day. I must add that the drive to Giverny was along small roads through some very quaint French villages, a very pleasant drive indeed.
