It was a short drive from our overnight aire to a Park & Ride car park on the outskirts of the city. The bus was 4 euros for a day ticket and after a 10 minute ride we were at the train station where we took another bus into the centre. Sounds complicated but much easier than driving into the city where parking even for cars is difficult.

After getting some information from the tourist office we set off to see the sights,.. well after coffee and an éclair to give us energy.During the day we visited the old town, the Grund area and the Casemates.

The Casements are caves which are under the old fortress and housed people in time of war.The Grund area is in the lower part of the city and we tested out our walking legs up and down hill. We stopped for lunch at the bottom of the valley in a pub and as we left the friendly waitress told us that nearby you could take a lift up to the top. This saved us an uphill climb which we were not looking forward to after having a beer and bruschetta.

Another look around the old part of town, it was back on the bus again. We could have stayed overnight in the Park and Ride but it was hot and the place was full, we opted to go to an aire about 25 kms south in a place called Dudelange where luckily we took the last place available.

We had chosen wisely as the place was much better than the P&R and we had a quiet night.
Tomorrow it’s off to France.
Thanks for sharing this, even more encouraged to go.
