Dinan - a quaint French town

We arrived at Dinan to find most of the parking places did not allow motorhomes and all the parks were paid. Thanks to the park4night app we found a place about 800 meters for the town centre. With a visit to the tourist information centre and forking out 20 cents for a map and proceeded to follow the advised walking route. Below are some of the photos we took on our walking tour.
Lidl - our favorite supermarket
Yes a photo of a supermarket. During our travels we have come to love Lidl supermarkets. They are small have local produce and the layouts are mostly the same. We are in and out quickly and they have stores all over Europe.
Moncontour
The afternoon was spent again meandering through the countryside and visiting the small village of Moncontour.
Our parking place for the night was next to a playground near a canal. There was even a toilet on site. Tomorrow we will not be visiting a town or a village, time for a change.
Castle, Abbey, market and Saint’s all in a day.
In the morning we went to the town of Pontivy where we did the French thing and bought a baguette and some cakes. It was a close walk to the castle Rohan, we can’t resist a good castle and although not open it was impressive from the outside.
Abbey de Bon-Repos
Our plan was to avoid towns today, so we headed off to the Abbey de Bon-Repos, this place was in the countryside and as it was Sunday the roads were quiet. As we approached the Abbey it was obvious more was happening there today, a market and several cafes were open and plenty of people. We strolled through the market and bought some goat cheese, had coffee at the café and visited the Abbey. The Abbey had been a ruin until recently and is gradually being restored.
Valley of the Saints
Our navigation app took us through some very small French roads in the countryside to the site of the Valley of the Saints. To visit the place it’s free entry but to park there is a cost of 6 euros. The car park however was full, and we could just sneak in next to the disabled area. I thought it would be a few statues in a valley, I was wrong, firstly they are on the hillside and there were not a few but hundreds. They are aiming at having 1000 statues on the site in homage to Britanny’s founding saints and the population’s traditional devotion to them. Below are some of the photos I took on the walk. Some of the statues didn’t seem all that saintly.
Door of the Day
Our day ended in a lovely new motorhome aire provided by the town of Poullaouen.
