Meandering around Brittany – France

We have 5 days until we catch our ferry to Ireland. We have marked out some towns, villages and other places of interest, how many we get to see depends on time, energy and logistics. Here’s how we spent day number one.

Vitres

5th of May 2023

We drove back to Vitres from our quiet parking spot and parked near to McDonalds, one for a coffee and two as we needed to charge the computer. Our inverter had decided to die on us and it was the only way we could charge it, all of our other devices can be plugged into USB sockets which we have plenty. We drank their coffee, used their internet and electricity but it took awhile to charge the computer. There must be another way. Find out at the end of the post..

The town of Vitres was most enchanting with wood frame buildings meandering streets and an excellent castle. The photos below will speak louder than my words.

Galette's

Everywhere in the town and on the outskirts, we saw food vans selling Galette’s. They are like a pancake with different fillings and folded into a rectangle, it is the fast food of the region so we also had to try some. Goat cheese and bacon the other one had ham egg and cheese.

Becherel - Village of the Books

We still had the afternoon free and we headed to a small village that is famous for having bookshops, Becherel. The place has 15 bookshops with a population of 660 people, they must like to read?? They had a parking area designated for motorhomes and after a short walk to the small village we explored the streets and the bookshops. Lots of books but mostly in French. As the parking spot was so quiet and we were tired it became our overnight spot.

Inverter issue solved

I explained our problem to the man at the tourist information office, who spoke excellent English and he made some phone calls as to where another inverter could be found. On the outskirts of town a large shopping centre e’Leclerc had a small one for sale for only 30 euros. And it works.YAY.

    Those buildings are amazing looks very nice. My cousin is intrigued catching a ferry to Ireland. Hope its a calm day
