Restaurants

We were traveling in the north of Croatia going towards Serbia. After checking out our resources there was nowhere to stay. A fellow traveler had told me that if you buy a meal in a restaurant and ask nicely they may allow you to stay overnight in their carpark. It was about 4.30 in the afternoon and we had enough driving for the day so we spotted a restaurant and pulled in. After explaining that we want to eat there tonight would it be possible to stay overnight. The friendly lady owner was most obliging and we headed back to our motorhome to relax before our evening meal. The meal was cheap and the service good, the cost was less than a caravan park site with the added bonus of no cooking and dishes to clean up.

After our meal the lady presented us with a rosary with a crucifix on it, she explained to us that they would give these out to the soldiers when they went to war. She had two left and she wanted us to have one for safe travels and the last she would keep for herself. We gave her a kangaroo and an Australian pen. We had a great experience, a meal and a place to stay for the night.

As we went back to our motorhome she said she would keep an eye out for us as her bedroom window overlooked the car park. The hospitality we received was more than we had hoped for.

Here is a photo of a restaurant we stayed at over night in southern Hungary. The owner was very friendly and the meal was excellent. It cost 16Euros [$25 Australian]
