You can call Wagga Wagga, Wagga, but you can’t call Woy Woy, Woy.

Tuesday 20th October, 2020

We had a pleasant 90 kilometre drive down to the city of Wagga Wagga past farms green and lush, that look like they are going to have a good harvest. We found an easy park in the town and walked the main street up to the park where there is a memorial to the HMS Wagga, a Corvette that Jenny’s dad served in at the end of world war two. We then ambled back down the main street for some shopping, thongs for Jenny and some small camping items. We are really contributing to the NSW economy in small ways.

Lunch down at the beach

Yes Wagga Wagga has a beach and a very nice one. It’s situated down at the river with sand, barbeques, tables and chairs ,shelters and well mowed lawn. To complete the picture there even some women in bikini’s , not that I noticed!! It was lunch time and be took our wraps, fillings and drinks to one of the shelters and enjoyed the ambience by the river.

Nice sandy beach, Jenny took a discrete photo trying not to include the bikini girls.
Nice shady place for some lunch.

Botanic gardens and Zoo

We were told by a lady at the beach that there was a beautiful botanic garden and a free zoo in Wagga Wagga. We headed to the place but found out the zoo was closed that day. The gardens were lovely and with it being a warm day we sat on a bench eating an ice cream from the cafe.

The Rock

After a pleasant day in Wagga Wagga we headed down south to a place called The Rock, no not named after Dwayne Johnson but after a rocky hill nearby. At the recreation ground you can park overnight, use the showers and toilets all for a donation. They recommend $5 per night, per van. We were the only people on the site and it was very quiet. The toilets and showers are newly built and in the morning we tried them out, nice hot water with good pressure.

Our spot for the night next to the oval, all on our own.
Ewout reading a book on his tablet.
The Rock that the town is named after.
