The aire for motorhomes at San Giuliano, Venice was one of the best city aires that we have stayed at. For 18 euros you get a very large site on grass, toilets and showers, a dishwashing area, a clothes washing area, friendly helpful staff and easy access into Venice. Of course they only take cash.

Venice Day 0ne.
We had a quiet morning apart from doing some clothes washing and tidying up. After lunch we walked 500 metres to the tram stop, waited all of three minutes for the tram to arrive and it was one stop until we reached Venice.
Our day consisted of walking the streets admiring the views and canals, taking the water ferry along the Grand Canal, having a quick look at St Marks Square, taking a boat to the island of Murano, enjoying an aperol in a lovely cafe on the island and generally soaking in the atmosphere.
We did have a highlight on the island of Murano. At the Basillica dei Santi Maria e Donato, behind the alter they had 3 rib bones from a dragon. I was naughty and took a photo not realizing that it was forbidden in the church. Apparently St. Donatus of Arezzo killed this dragon. Fact of fiction, you decide??
At about 8pm it was time to eat and we found a quiet restaurant in a back street far from the crowds. Sitting outside, the weather was perfect and the food was excellent. Venitian sardenes for an entree, Jenny had risotto for mains while I had the spagetti bolognese. All this for a very reasonable price, really finished off a great tiring day in Venice.
The tram ride back was an adventure. Instead of taking the usual 5 minutes it took 30 minutes as it kept on stopping with the lights going out. Eventual we arrrived back at the aire around 11.00pm. Very tired and straight to bed.
Venice Day Two
After going in late yesterday and staying into the evening today we decided to go in early to try and beat the crowds. On the tram early and in we went. We caught the water ferry and grabbed a seat at the back giving us great views of the canal.
We managed to get into St Marks Square at about 9.30 and even then it was busy but not crazy. We joined the line and went to see St Mark’s Basilica. Cant show you any of the inside as no photos were not allowed.
We walked around the area of the square and then headed in the direction of the Rialto Bridge. Over the last day we had seen the bridge many times and we had to do the tourist thing and walk over it and take a photo. Continuing our walk we stopped for lunch next to a canal and had bread rolls we had taken with us. With tired feet we headed back to the tram at about 1pm.
Our 24 hour ticket.
We purchased a 24 hour transport ticket for 20 euros each which allowed us to ride on all the public transport in and around Venice including our tram rides and all the water taxi’s. We validated the ticket at 1.15 day one and had our final ride on day two coming back on the tram. this gave as the whole afternoon and night on day one and the morning on day two. you dont see many people validating there tickets but they do check to see if they are valid. On one ferry they did random checks and on the morning of day two our tickets were checked. The fine is 60 euros for not having a valid ticket. We bought our ticket from the office at the aire, cash only of course.
Aire near Ro
From Venice we drove to a great aire near the town of Ro. The place had a nice lawned area with tables and chairs. All the services except toilet emptying but it did have electricity all for free. With only 3 other motorhomes there is was a quiet night.

We saw a sign stating ‘Pirates Ride for Free’ on the Vaporetto, surprised you didn’t just buy one ticket !
