The Republic of San Marino

7th September 2019 Stayed the night in the aire at Mondavio, all the services as well as electricity, all free. San Marino is a very small country and the place of interest to visit is purched on a hill top. You can walk, ride a bike, drive a car if you get there early (Very limited parking) or take the cable car from the lower car park to the top. For €4.50 return it was a wise choice.

The town at the top of the hill was both good and bad. It had great views and some interesting buildings but it was spoilt by having so many tacky shops. Plus shops so unrelated to the nice place that it was. Perfume shops, leather goods shops, firearms shops, shops that sold Norwegian trolls ?, shops with an array of skulls in all different decorations. They were so out of place and really detracted from the nice architecture and the setting up on the hill.

The place was not really big and within a few hours we had seen most of it, so it was back down the cable car and lunch in the Bunyip. Back on the road and it was half an hour later that we were back into Italy.

Mondavio

Our destination that afternoon was a small hilltop town called Mondavio. The weather came in very rainy on our drive there and we stayed indoors for most of the afternoon.

It cleared up late in the a afternoon and we ventured into town to have a look and to taste the local pizza. The town has a large fortress and also a display of siege engines.

Our antipasta before pizza, yum. A meal in itself.

The restaurant we chose was on the edge of town and we enjoyed the antipasto and the pizza. Again another quiet night

Corinaldo

8th September 2019 Stayed in the aire. All the services as well as electricity, all for free.In the morning we had a quick walk back into Mondavio before setting off to our next town Corinaldo, all of 12 kilometers away. Another great aire with large pitches and free electricity.

SIM card drama

It will be easy he said, you will have no problem he said, all you do is put in the card he said. Why did I have a strange feeling of doubt when he said it. This was the salesman who sold us our Vodaphone SIM cards in the Netherlands. Our first card worked very well but when it ran out and we inserted our second card it did not work. It did however leave us a message to contact their help service if we experience any problem. If your internet data card does not work how do you contact them on the internet? Luckily just up the road there was a local bar with WiFi. Over a drink and some free nibbles we managed to chat to Davy our friendly Vodaphone help person. He restored the cards and we now have data. Hooray.

Ewout takes a dive?

It was a lazy afternoon after our small walk to the bar, Ewout was sitting out side sorting photo’s on the tablet. Sitting for awhile he was unaware he had lost all feeling in his right leg. He got up and took a dive to the ground as his right leg did not work. This resulted in a sprained ankle, scraped and sore knee, lacerations to the hand and elbow. For those who are now fretting and worrying he has now made a complete recovery. With a badly sprained ankle the next day was spent again at the Aire resting. Lucky for us it was a quiet pleasant place to stop as Jenny definitely doesn’t want to drive the motorhome, even though she could if it was needed.

We are heading off to Sicily on Thursday so have enjoyed reading your blog . We alway pick you up when you are in Europe . We are earmarking some of the places you are visiting and being reminded of some of the ones we have already visited. Commachio brought back some fantastic memories and Ravenna . Our plan to head to Monza first then down to Monte Cassino before spending a fortnight in Sicily . Homewards up whereever the fancy takes us . We have travelled in our van since 2012 and still love it . Looking forward to picking up JENGOG the blog I write and fill it with a bit of Italy

Enjoy you travels, we were in Casino a week ago. The monastery is amazing the town is to be avoided. Narrow streets with crazy traffic.
      Cheers Ewout

I am all good just out of action for a
day. Yes this trip has gone fast but it is only a trip of seven weeks.

Ouch, but you could be stuck in worse places!
We didn’t care for San Marino … the fascination with gun and knife shops. We asked someone about it … he shrugged his shoulders and said all the people in SM are bandito.
