Slovenia

8th July 2013

We drove from Croatia into Slovenia and the landscape seemed to change as we crossed the border. The houses and the landscape had an Austrian/Swiss look to it and large mountains could be seen in the distance. We had travelled through Slovenia in 2010 and we spent a lot of time there,as we had trouble with the motorhome and had to get it fixed. Our destination was Lake Bled but we had already driven enough for one day and found a camperstop next to the “Hotel Kanu”  There you can stay with electricity, showers, toilets and the use of the pool all for 10 euro’s. We had settled in and later in the afternoon two motorhomes turned up with British numberplates. There were 5 people travelling together doing a rushed two week tour of europe. All the electricity outlets were being used, so I helped out by putting and adaptor in our plug which enabled both of us to use the some outlet. We spent a pleasant evening together drinking and exchanging stories.

Lake Bled

We had been to Lake Bled in 2010 but we happened to arrive there on the busiest weekend of the year when they have a lantern festival on the lake. We drove in and then drove out as it was so busy and nowhere to park. This time we went straight to the Sobec caravan park situated before the town of Bled.

A very large but quiet place with plenty of trees and good facilities. We set up, had some lunch, took off our bikes and headed to the lake which by bike was only 4 kms away. We rode to the town and around the lake to the other side. Lake Bled is a very picturesque area and being a Sunday was busy but not crowded. In the middle of the lake is an island which has a church building with 99 steps leading to the doors. It is said that when they have weddings there it is good luck for the groom to carry his wife up the steps and ring the bell at the top. I think it would be good luck if his wife was small !!! We rode back after having an icecream and listening to the buskers in traditional outfits, they were very good, both the icecream and the buskers. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing at the campsite
