The Romantic road part 1.
Leaving Koblenz we followed the west bank of the Rhine river, enjoying the scenery of small villages, vineyards and the castles and towers located on the hillsides on both sides of the river. We stopped occasionally to walk through a village, take photos of scenery and take a cable car ride up a hill in the town of Rudesheim am Rhein.
We stopped at Wurzburg for a night and after find a carpark/camperstop on the banks of the river, we strolled over the old bridge into town to visits the Bishops residence. We found this very interesting and had a good look in the gardens and building before making our way back into the city centre and wandering the streets. We found a nice cafe on the banks of the river so decided for a coffee and some internet to check our emails and other things. We had dinner that night in a quaint restaurant with lovely atmosphere and enjoyed a meal of local food, wine and beer.. On our way back to the camper we walked back over the old bridge and were amazed to see people standing outside the small bar spilling onto the bridge drinking beer and wines in the evening air. Returning to the camper we noticed a carnival set up close by and decided to investigate. The rides and sideshows were quiet but we found the beer hall with live music and much gaiety. We couldn’t resist the chance to experience the German Spring festival first hand and soon found a table where we could sit back, buy a drink and watch the festivities. It was a grand experience watching the men in lederhosen, waitresses with handfuls of steins of beer and the locals enjoying themselves.
The next morning Ewout and Lori decided to walk up the hill to visit the Monastery while Jenny stayed in the camper, writing and uploading part of the blog.
Unfortunatley Jenny has not been well for the first part of the trip, affected by asthma she needed to have a quiet morning out of the cold air. Second edition of the Romantic Road coming soon.
