Romantik camping in Hungary!!!!
We left Vienna in the morning and headed across the border into Hungary. One of our destinations in Hungary is Lake Balaton so we chose a campsite halfway from Vienna to Balaton in a town called Buk. Unknown to us it is a place with thermal baths and is a popular place to come and relax. We had morning tea along the way in a town where we went to the ATM for some Hungarian money and decided to stay and catch up on the internet as the café had free wifi.
Arriving at about 2pm we set up camp and I went for a bike ride to check out where the thermal baths were and to suss out a restaurant for tea. After a quiet afternoon we went out for tea in a local restaurant and had a great meal with good service and way too much food. Our meal including 2 drinks each cost $10 each. [Bargain]. Our entertainment during our meal was a singer with a keyboard singing popular songs. He sang only in Hungarian so we all tried to guess the song. We had our own version of Spicks and Specks.
That night Jenny and I decided to sleep in the quecha 2 man tent outside. The weather had been good all day. However that night it decided to rain. The tent was very waterproof and the rain was not much of a hindrance but at 2 in the morning there were 3 owls that decided to make a loud noise that sounded like a high screech “beer’ sound. Beer-Beer-Beer without let up. After about 15 minutes we decided to get back into the camper put earplugs in and try to sleep. Which worked as we slept in to 10. The rain continued until the afternoon.
In the late afternoon we went to the Thermal Baths and soaked in several pools. The water is warm ,smells of sulphur and looks like tea. Very relaxing and supposed to be very good for you. That night we decide to return to our favorite restaurant as the food ,price and service was so good.
The next day we headed off towards Lake Balaton stopping along the way at a Tesco to shop and buy a cordless drill and a few other tools. The cordless drill cost a whole $17.50. The reason for the purchase was to fix the rear bunk bed where I have been sleeping. It broke the night before, I think they were designed to sleep kids and not someone my size. After Tesco and the hardware store we headed off to Yacht Camping, Lake Balaton which has good memories for us, as it was there we met our friends the Motski Brothers and drank much beer.
