Prague, Czech Republic, 1st May 2009

After a night spent in a carpark of a freeway petrol station with lots of trucks going in and out all night we have arrived in Prague early Friday morning. We drove through the city streets that were confusing with lots of road works but we managed to find our campsite, a small back of residence camping place, nice and clean and orderly. The lady who greeted us speaks very good English and is very helpful. We caught a tram into the main centre of Prague and arrived there about 11.30. After a short stroll up St Wenceslas square we decided that we should do a grand city tour of about 3 hours. It was leaving at 2.40 so we had a couple of hours to kill. So we looked for some place to get a drink and some lunch. We found a Indonesian cafe and the only thing on the menu we recognised was the indo menu so thought we would try this. When we sat down the waitress gave us an English menu and as we now could understand this decided to order from their Czech menu. We had a good lunch, very fillling and then went on our tour. We climbed on a small bus with lot of Spanish speaking people and their was only one other couple who spoke English, the lady tour guide had to explain everything twice, once in Spanish and then English. At first it seemed that the Spanish people were getting twice the amount of information that we were , but as it went on it got better.

To start off with I wasn’t that impressed with the city, but as we went on with the bus and then got off to go to the castle it really started to impress me. The tour guide was really interesting and it opened up my eyes about the country’s history and the architecture. We had a really busy few hours and as we went around the old town it just got busier. There were tourists everywhere, lots of tour guides with flags flying, so busy. We arrived back at our camp pretty tired and thirsty and have been very surprised to find we have wifi internet here, it has a very low strength reading but we were able to update the blog, and check on our emails. Cool.
