10th and 11th August, 2019
Stayed at Gaby and Renko’s house, Winkel, North Holland.
Back in 2009 while in Croatia we first met Gaby and Renko. A friendship was struck and we have visited them many times over the past ten years. Now they have plans to come to Australia and will be visiting us. We are very much looking forward to their visit.
1731 Winkel, Netherlands
On Saturday morning after some final organising we headed north to the village of Winkel where Gaby and Renko live. We spent the afternoon talking drinking coffee and catching up on news. In the evening they took us to a friends place who runs a bed and breakfast as well as cooking classes. He cooked us a magnificent 4 course meal in a unique setting that he has created. Part of his business is to design and decorate restaurants. It was a great night food ,wine and friends.
Medemblik
On the Sunday we went to Medemblik a coastal town on the north coast. They were having some festivities including dragon boat races. Most of the competitors were of a social nature, many drinking wine or beer before their races. The teams dressed up in various costumes and fun came before winning.
In the afternoon we met up with friends of Gaby and Renko who live right on the harbour. We had some coffee before heading to another coastal town for a fish dinner. On the way back we finished off the day with some ice-cream. We slept very well that night. The next morning we had breakfast together and we headed of to Amsterdam. The next time we will see each Gaby and Renko will be in Australia.
The lost has been found.
In the previous post we mentioned that the Tom Tom we left at Martin’s was nowhere to be found. Jenny looked inside a backpack that we use only in Europe and discovered it tucked inside. The tablet which had a strange battery problem is now working fine. It seems we are getting rid of some of the gremlins and hopefully things will run smoothly. We are now off to spend a couple of days in Amsterdam.
