Well we are still in Ljubljana, still waiting for the camper to be fixed.
Last week the Skania mechanics put in a new clutch, hoping that it would fix the problem. It did fix the clutch, it is much better, but when we headed back on the road again and went to pass a truck the original problem reared it’s ugly head and the motor cut out on us as we were half way past the truck. So it was back to Ljubljana again as we want to sort out this problem while we are in such easy and friendly city. We don’t want to be stuck on the road out of the way and where no one can speak English.
Well after a bit of head scratching and a couple of trips up hills by mechanics they have found that the problem is the fuel injector system is the cause. Unfortunately it wasn’t something the Skania workshop could do so they organized the Ford dealership nearby to have a look. Franci the workshop manager is friends with the manager at the Ford place so we felt that we were being put in good hands. It will not be a cheap exercise to get it fixed, but it is important to have it done and we would like to continue our trip with some peace of mind.
We would really like to thank Joe Juhant, Franci and all the great mechanics at Skania in Ljubljana for all the help they have given us. Joe especially as he put himself out for us and even turned up at the workshop during his holiday break. He wanted to make sure we would be looked after and has tried to help us as much as he could.
So today after dropping the camper off at the mechanics early we found a nice cafe in the middle of town and are able to use their free wifi. The photo of the river above is pretty much where we sit which is a very pleasant place to sit and drink coffee and spend some time on the internet. The weather is cooler but fine and it is not so busy as it it is still early.
We can pick up the camper today and then take it back tomorrow when they have the part, so we are thinking that instead of going back to the campground in the city, we will go to one which is about 25kms further out at Kamnik which may be quieter and hopefully nicer and not so expensive. We were happy to pay the exorbitant rates at the Ljubljana campground as it was convenient to the town and were originally only staying a couple of nights but because it has gone longer we planned have now had enough. It is busy, noisy and when we arrived the internet was free, now they want to charge €2 for 20mins, €5 for 2 hrs and €9 for a whole day. We don’t mind paying a reasonable rate, but as the campsite is already expensive it is a not worth it.
Otherwise we are well, have had a good look around town, it is becoming very familiar, and we find it is a very easy place to get around on our bikes.
We are well at least, but itching to get back on the road.
Until next time
Hi Jenny. You wouldn’t believe it but we have a similar story to you playing out right now. We own a ford transit. We broke down yesterday and the repairman in Italy “fixed” it. It broke down again today when we were in Lujbljiana and now we are googling away to find someone to fix the problem. Yep of guessed it.. A fuel injector issue! You don’t happen to have any idea where the ford mechanic was in this city?
