Holland to Germany
We left cousin Martin’s on Friday lunch time and then drove across Holland to De Lutte [near Enchede] to visit with Auntie Janette and cousin Mike. We had a pleasant evening at a restaurant , which really looked quite posh but was very reasonably priced. That night we slept in the camper at the end of the street where Janette lives. It was our first night for this year sleeping in the camper and it was very cozy considering the fact that it was snowed overnight. After enjoying breakfast with Janette the snow was melting and we drove off the snow was all but gone. We continued our way into Germany, our destination being the “The Romantic Road” and ended up in the town of Wetzlar , a pretty German town with a river flowing through it’s centre. Here we stayed in a parking place next to the river. The next morning we slept in and we didn’t get on the road until after 11.00, which was a very late start for us. Our next stop was Wurzburg, where we again parked next to the river. It was very cold and so we rugged up well and went for a long walk into the town and after coffee in the bakery, to the Marienberg Fortress (Prince Bishop’s residence) on the hill. We needed the exercise after the coffee and cake we had for afternoon tea. The walk took us until nearly 7.00pm and so we decided to have tea in a Pakistani buffet restaurant. It was good to have some curry as the temperature outside was 2 degrees and a very light snow.
Back to Holland ????
Why back to Holland you say!!! Well we had been in contact with the family back in Australia and my father and Jenny”s father in law was very sick and in hospital. We though that we should stay close to Holland in case we need to make a return trip back. The more we thought about it the more we realized that going back to Martin’s was the best place to wait and see what was happening. We drove the whole day 550km to Martin’s and arrived at 7 in the evening.
Back to Australia
This morning we received the news that Pa is very unwell and the doctors and family back home advised us to return. After phoning the travel agent and the insurance people we are now booked to return on the 3rd April at 3.30pm. Our trip is cut very short but we have the option to return and finish this trip if we return within the time of our original planned trip. Until we know more or events change we will keep our options open.
