10th September 2019. Stayed at a Sosta on the beach. All the usual facilities. After a days rest we were ready to hit the road again. Ewout was still limping but was ok to drive. We headed from our hilltop village down to the coast.
Not all motorhomers are nice people!
As we were leaving we drove to the service area of the aire to empty our toilet, fill up with water and empty our grey water tank. Just as I was getting our toilet out a man races past me with his toilet and empties his first, very strange. A while later when we were nearly finished the same man drives right up behind us and almost demands that we move off as he has to catch a ferry in Ancona. I politely told him that we would be finished in a couple of minutes, he did not look pleased. It’s not our fault that he was not organized.
Loreto
After driving along the coast for a while we decided once again go up into the mountains and visit the town of Loreto. We found an easy park and slowly walked (and limped) up to town. When reaching the town we were immediately impressed by the town square, not touristy and quiet. Unfortunately the church dome as well as other parts were being restored and covered in scaffolding.
60025 Loreto AN, Italy
An impressive town square.
Street art. This was done in pastels.
Impressive Dragon on the fountain.
The church is a pilgrimage site as it is supposed to contain the house that Mary lived in. The story goes that the house that Mary lived in at Nazareth was transported by angels to Croatia then to another part of Italy and moved again by the angels to its present site. I have one word in mind ,WHY??. Anyway not for me to question what the angels are up to.
The house is inside the church and covered with ornately carved marble. You can enter the house but no photos were allowed. I have borrowed one from Google images. Inside they have a black Madonna with baby Jesus.
After stroll through the town it was back for more driving and if you hadn’t realised by the title of the blog we headed down again to the coast.
A beach but not as we know it.
We continued our days drive down the coast. Although we were near the beach we couldn’t see it much as for long stretches there is a train track along the beach. People have to park next to the train line and get to the beach by way of tunnels under the train tracks. The coastal towns are interesting but a bit of the same, same lots of apartments, food outlets and entertainment venues. As we were driving we noticed many camper signs and as we had no plans for a spot for the night (As you can tell we are well organised) we consulted the park4night as to which one nearby sounded reasonable. With our choice made we travelled all of 3kms to our site by the beach.
The site was on lawn and had beach frontage. Good view if you looked forward but not if you looked back. The man who greeted us was friendly and spoke no english, but we communicated fine.
We went for a walk and realized the place was very run down and a bit dodgy. Plenty of run down flats and all a bit depressing. After passing some dubious places we found a nice cafe/bar and had coffee with cake. Very cheap and good.
The beach was all pebbles with no sand. Not quite what we are used to, but the water was warmer. Not that we went for a swim only wadded up to our knees. The place was very quite with only a few other motorhomes. We settled in for the evening and had a relatively quiet night.
