Cappadocia to Konya
It is not far to Konya from Cappadocia so we had a quiet morning and headed off at 11.00am.
About 60kms into our drive we diverted to a place called Agzikarahan, this is where in the past the camel caravans would stop overnight. It turned out not as promising as the write-up said it was and the building where the camels were housed was being repaired with a lot of scaffolding around it, but it was nice to get out and stretch our legs and look at some of the old ruined buildings.
We then drove through the town of Aksaray where Clyde and Anna spotted a restaurant which advertised Doners. After pulling we were greeted warmly and shown to the seating area under a large shaded area then we tried to order what we thought were doners on a plate, we only had pictures to go by as no one in the place could speak English. We did get doner meat on a plate as well as bread, a bowl of manti [a pasta dish with yogurt sauce], small plates of a spicy lentil dish, white beans, tomato cucumber onion salad and a plate of watermelon.
It was not what we expected and we were pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was, it was a feast and the cost was about $22 [Australian] each, great value for what we had.
Our next surprise of the day was the camperstop/caravan park. The information we obtained was that it was a camperstop at the edge of town and that it was free. When we got there a security guard opened the gate for us and a Turkish man staying there told us that it was free and the guard wanted to know how long we were staying. Apart from being near a busy road the place was great with a large paved area to park on and free, yes free, electricity, showers and toilets. Around the paved area was well looked after lawns which was watered by a automatic sprinkler system. The showers were hot and had good pressure (heaven).
Across the busy road was a small take away food van which sold kofta in bread. The Turkish man at the camperstop came across the road with us to help order. Our tea that night for the four of us cost us a grand total of 12 dollars Australian.
Although the road was busy we had a good sleep with the aid of our earplugs.
