Arrived in Budapest, Haller Camping. We managed to get a good spot under shade, think we will need it as it’s going to be a hot weekend.

This a great campsite that has easy access to public transport into Budapest, free wifi, free washing machines but not the best showers unless you like being confronted by naked people and showing them your bits too.

We spent the first afternoon doing our washing, resting in the shade and making plans for the next few days.

Mike,( Ewout and Astrid’s cousin) was arriving the next morning from Holland and he was bringing a colleague from work, so until he arrived we took it easy.

Friday morning Mike and Debbie arrived by taxi so after introductions and a drink we walked up to the metro station to buy a 7 day ticket which allowed us to use all the public transport.

We caught our first metro train into Budapest centre, but unfortunately there was a bit of confusion on our part and we went one station too far. After getting off and walking up the road we finally worked out where we were and were we should be and how to get there. Not unusual in a new city with a language that is very hard to understand.

So when we got to the centre of town, we were hot, thirsty and wanting some lunch..found a spot under umbrellas in the main square. ok meal..cold beer…good people watching place. Ewout bought our bus tour tickets while we waited for the food, so we were all set.

Now I could go on and on about our days in Budapest… but I won’t, the pictures tell the story. Nevertheless I will say we had a lovely time exploring the town, eating and drinking out, sharing our time with Mike and Debbie.

The weather was very hot though and with hardly any air-conditioning it made it very tiring and so on the Sunday, Mike and Debbie went to a pool, while caught the metro out to a very new shopping centre and enjoyed their air co, while we did a little shopping and had some lunch.

We did meet some nice people in the campground, a young Irish man, Kieran , a young couple from Canada and another couple from Australia, Jacqui and Lewis who are doing a long trip on their way home to Australia.

Monday we said goodbye to Mike and Debbie and Tuesday morning was the saddest time as we had to say goodbye to Astrid, who had to fly home to Australia, back to a new baby grand daughter and her family… so it is back to the two of us.
