There were a few options on what we could do in Belfast and after weighing them up it was decided we would use the Hop on Hop Off Bus. We haven’t been on one in nearly ten years. A two-day ticket was the best option, and it would take us to the places we had planned.
The Titanic Experience
We didn’t book tickets online but just showed up and after parting with our cash we followed the throng through the maze that was the Titanic Experience. It was very well done but spoiled a bit by the masses of people, making it hard to read and understand some of the displays. We don’t need to go into the very famous first and final voyage of the grand ship, but it was a poignant reminder of the part it played in Belfast’s industrial past and the ensuing human tragedy. The ticket also included a look at a smaller SS Nomadic which was used as a tender boat for the Titanic and just as elaborately fitted out. After its use as a tender, it went under many transformations by the French until it was bought and brought back to Belfast to be restored to its former glory.
The best fish and chips in Belfast !!
After a long visit to the wharves, it was lunch time and were back on the bus, then hopped off in an area that had plenty of bars and restaurants. The best fish and chips in Belfast were on the sandwich board and for a reasonable price. It was a delicious lunch, in a very atmospheric bar, but we cannot say it was the best as we have not tried them all.
Bus ride completed and an quiet evening.
We completed the bus circuit and drove past the murals of Belfast getting our bearings as to where to get off the next day for a closer look. The last bus stop on the route dropped us close to our car park overnight spot. After such a busy day we spent a quiet evening in the Bunyip watching a couple of Game of Thrones episodes.
Photos taken on the bus, we will have better mural photos on our walk tomorrow.
