Ashes to Ashes in Puttershoek

Memorial for our Father.

Sunday 21st July: At 2.30 pm Willy, Dean, Astrid, Chris, Jenny and Ewout were joined by  35 relatives at a Memorial Service where we spread some of the  ashes of our Father, Mother and brother Tony. We did this on the dyke where the house Dad was born in stood. It was quite a warm day but still pleasant. Willy said a few words and Ewout spread the ashes, Astrid, Jenny, Chris and Dean laid flowers for them and others that we wanted to remember. It was a fitting service and lots of tears shed but I think that they would have liked it.

We then went back to a local tea house for coffee and cake in the garden and lots of chatting with relatives we had not seen for years. After we finished there we went back to Martin’s for a bar-b-que tea and more catching up with the Brand and van Zijl families.

It was such a memorable day that went better than any of us expected and a wonderful closure for the families in Holland and us. “The circle has been completed they were taken back to the place they started from.”
