Cuckoo Clocks and a Waterfall
Our drive today took us into the heart of the Black Forest in German and of course the home of the cuckoo clock. There were plenty of places on the side of the road that had enormous clocks luring tourists into their shops. We stopped at one and watched as the clock went through its motions and did have a look inside, nothing we couldn’t live without.
Arriving at the town of Triberg we first did a quick shop at the Lidl supermarket and after a bit of driving around found a close parking spot on the outskirts of town. Our first mission (should we accept) was to have some coffee and Blackforest Cake. This was easily achieved as just down from our car park was a hotel which had a cafe. Very fancy place but normal prices and great Blackforest Cake. It just wouldn’t be right to be in the Black Forest and not try the cake.

Blackforest Cake in the Black Forest. Yum
Main street Triberg. More giant clocks in front of shops.
The town is very touristy and apart from the many cuckoo clock shops it is where the tallest waterfall in German is situated. So after a walk through the town we joined the crowds, parted with €5 each and walked up to the top of the waterfall. An enjoyable walk with the exception of a few loads tourists.
In front of the lower part of the waterfall. At the top we didn’t look so fresh.
They sold peanuts at the entrance to feed the squirrels. With the crazy amounts of people and dogs we thought seeing one would be very rare. But we did see a couple. If you look closely you will see it.
Tired and with sore feet we headed back to the camper and drove further along the road until we reached the town of Tuttelingen. There were plenty of places in the aire and after tea we strolled the town and had a quiet evening. Time to fess up, we did buy a very small fridge magnet cuckoo clock.
On our walk through Tuttelingen we saw this interesting door.

Castle
On planning this trip we came across a castle along our route. Burg Hohenzolleren. After a road block delayed our journey we were soon in the carpark of the castle and glad we got there early @ 10.30. A shuttle bus toook us from the carpark to the base of the castle. The ticket we purchased also included a guided tour inside some of the rooms. Normal price €12 but we flashed our seniors card and it was reduced to €10.
The tour inside lasted nearly an hour but no photos were allowed to be taken. Only at the chapels and a couple of other places inside could we snap some pics. A walk around the outside and our castle visit was complete.

More cuckoo clocks!! As we were walking to the bus to take us back a sign said vote for you favourite cuckoo clock and pointed to a room in one of the towers. There were 14 cuckoo clocks and you could vote for your favourite. As most shops don’t want you to take photos of the clocks it was an ideal time to take a few photos. The remainder of the blog are these photos enjoy if so inclined, or not.
