Adelaide; Australia
Well now we are “home” in Adelaide and it seems we need to update the last few weeks of our travel blog. So I will try to put them into some sort of order and finish this year’s adventure up to date.
After leaving Denmark we drove into Germany heading south to make a ferry crossing just north of Hamburg. We visited Cuxhaven and then Bremerhaven where we checked out the Emigration museum which was extremely well done and very interesting. A visit to the wharves and then the fish market was done before getting back on the road.
We next visited our friends in North Holland where we had a nice day riding our bikes to visit a garden referred to as the “Kremlin” with building and statues made of recycled material and then on to an old fishing village where they were having a boat festival.
The next day we headed back to cousin Martins where we to finished our trip.
Arriving back we found out that our new grandson was having some difficulties with his heart. Born with a hole between the two chambers it was not closing as it should. Our daughter Jade was understandably upset and wanted her Mum and Dad home for support.
Lucky for us our travel agent was able to book a flight home on the Friday morning which gave us peace of mind and although we had to forgo our stop-over in Phuket we were very happy to be able to get home where we were needed.
We have been able to spend the last couple of weeks house-sitting the home of our friends John and Helen while they are away in Canada and the U.S. and this has been a godsend while the little grandson has been in hospital getting his feeding and nutrition sorted out.
The first week back for me was spent visiting the hospital and the second week in bed with the flu while Ewout did a trip to Roxby downs to do some painting. Now he is working the week at the Adelaide show and I have had some time to do some catching up with family and friends.
We have another 6 weeks here house-sitting and it’s a great base while we settle back into our lives here in Australia. So until our next travels……………
