Trapanj to Slovenia.
We had a lovely few days at Trapanj, although the campsite was busy, the beach at our end was quiet and we were able to enjoy lovely view and go swimming and snorkeling in the crystal clear water.
We rode our bike into the village and did some shopping at the small market, watched the ferry arriving and departing and walked along the breakwater to see the view of the town. On the last evening we became acquainted with a German couple who we were parked next to at Camping Kate and had recommended this campsite to them. We had a lovely evening chatting and drinking and exchanging travel stories. We parted with an invitation to visit them, but that will have to wait for another year.
The next morning we caught the 9.00 o’clock ferry to Ploce and the 50mins went very fast as we said good bye to the Peljesaca Penninsular. We had contacted Goran the day before and made a plan to meet up with them near their home in Mimice, we didn’t know what to expect and whether we would stay around there but decided to see “how it went”. Arriving in the town we called their phone and within 3 mins they arrived and it was decided to spend some time on the beach and have coffee at the little cafe there. So bathers put on and we grabbed our gear, then climbed into their car for the 200 metres trip to the carpark at the top of the steps. We spent a nice couple of hours with Goran and Danke , had coffee and a swim and enjoyed lazing on the beach. They had explained that they had friends arriving that afternoon, so when they turned up we decided we didn’t want to be in the way and made our excuses to go. We still had a long way to drive and thought it best to get some more kms under our wheels that day.
Driving along the road to Zadar we found a Hotel/camping ground and stayed for the night, it was expensive and not very well maintained. Almost on par with some we found in Turkey, but it was getting late and we wanted to stop, have dinner and a hot or warm shower. Lucked out on the last point, badly wanting to wash my hair it was a very quick rinse off in the cold water, refreshing but not very satisfying and although we could voice our annoyance to the office, they didn’t really seem to care.
The next morning we drove into Zadar, the last time we were here it was relatively quiet, but it was obvious it was holiday season and we managed to find a carpark by the marina and go for a walk. It is a lovely small walled town with a beautiful seaside position. Walking through the narrow streets is a delight but we could only spend a short time there as all the change we could find for the parking machine gave us an hour and half to stop.
Last time we were here we bought some “Croc” copies called “Frogs”, and Ewout loved his, but they were long gone and he wanted to buy some more, unfortunately they didn’t have them anymore, but we managed to buy some other similar shoes.
So we left Zadar and followed the coast, stopped at a small autocamp by the sea and spent the afternoon swimming and enjoying the view. That night it came up very windy and the strong winds rocked the camper, we changed our minds about staying another day and so we drove the very long. windy and scenic road up the coast of Croatia and into Slovenia.
Loved the photos. Truly picturesque. Tried to ring you. Will try again.
Love to you both.
