Beach stay
Our time at Naples over and after 4 days in the one site it was time to head north towards Rome. We are now using our new car phone holder because our trusty TomTom has decided to switch off regularly. Not convenient when driving through busy towns. We have loaded Osmand+ to a phone and one of our tablets. So far so good. We drove along the coastal road and did a shop at a M+E supermarket, not as good as our usual Lidl supermarket.
Lunch was spent at a car park by the beach and our park4night app said that it could be used for an overnight spot, but some entrepreneur has bought the carpark and motorhomes were now not allowed to stay. After a look at places ahead we saw a campsite that gave a discount for out of season stay and was right on the beach.
Camping Santa Anastasia
We arrived at the campsite and the friendly lady at the reception booked us in for the night which we would later extend to two nights. She asked for some documents to fill out her paperwork. I handed over my drivers licence which next to my name has “organ donor” next to my photo. I presume that she does has not have a big grasp of english as she wrote my name as Organ Donor. From now on its Mr. Donor but my friends call me Organ.
We were there out of the “season” and very glad we were. The most number motorhomes on the site was 4. Really quiet and we were just a short walk to a beach that was almost deserted. We spent 2 days on the site relaxing, swimming and catching up with the washing.

The campsite was huge and in the season it would have been a crazy place and one to avoid at all costs. The map that was provided at the reception showed the extent of the campsite and here are some of the features that are open in the crazy holiday season. The car park holds 400 cars, there are two swimming pool areas, a bar, a piano bar, a supermarket, a church, a medical centre, a cinema, volleyball courts, basketball courts, on site cabin rentals, tent areas, motorhome parking, residential sites with yearly leases, child care centre and the list goes on. The place is a virtual small town and we are glad to have missed it, in fact it now has the feeling of a ghost town as there are only a few people using the entire site. We enjoyed our stay at Camping Santa Anastasia but after two days it was time to move on and head north.

The Pope’s Summer Palace
As we headed north we decided to visit the town of Albano Laziale for this is where the Pope’s Summer palace is, Castel Gandolfo. Sounds a bit Lord of the Ringsish!! This was where the Popes would spend there holidays but is now no longer used. It is situated next to Lake Albano 30 kilometers south of the Vatican City. We arrived at a motorhome parking spot at midday, really busy as the parking area was also used as a pick up point for the local school and the school day was finishing. It was a short but steep walk up the hill to the Palace, all Italian towns seem to be on a hill.

The town was very pleasant and the gelato excellent, trying out a new flavour called the Steve Martin, it was a nutty flavour. We have been trying to get away from our usual flavours and try different ones. Some have been really good while others we would not try again.
Back to the Bunyip by mid afternoon and we headed off to yet another beach 70 kilometers away. The place was free and overnight we were joined by a mix of other motorhomes, Germans, Swiss, French and a couple of Italians. The place was quiet but there was plenty of noise as a thunder storm passed through.
