Narrow Roads
We had just driven to Cannobio on the shore of Lake Maggiore along the road following the shoreline. This was the main road but was extremely narrow in places where you had to give way to other vehicles at times and they gave way to you. A Dutchman in the camperstop we stayed in had a similar sized motorhome as ours but it was shorter. He came up to me and asked ‘how do your drive on these narrow roads?”.
When we first started driving in Europe I must admit that I was a bit nervous driving a large vehicle through some narrow streets in villages and in other places but after seeing that buses and trucks go on the same roads without a problem I was a bit more relaxed. The key is to be aware of the road ahead and at times you may have to stop to let someone through and they will do the same to you.
After we left that camperstop in Cannobio we continued along the shore of the lake and we were following a German car towing a caravan. We could tell that he was not comfortable and at the first place that he could he turned off and left the road. The pictures below show how narrow the road was and it was two way.
Take it easy, be aware of the road ahead and be patient.
