As we travel we see many things on the back of motorhomes, scooters, motorbikes, cars on trailers and of course pedal bikes. One of the drawbacks of having a motorhome is that once you are parked and set up you can’t just drive off and go sightseeing. The other problem is the size of the vehicles which makes parking difficult in some areas. We would love to have a motorbike on the back of our motorhome but that would mean another set of insurance, road tax, helmets and gear etc. As we come from Australia our travel insurance does not cover us on a motorbike so we would have to take out separate insurance again. Our solution is to have bikes with us mounted on a bike rake.

We have tried various types of bikes and have settled for small electric assisted ones. As Jenny was having trouble with her knee these have been great. They are not long distance touring bikes but are great for visiting towns, villages and cities. As they are so low you can stop take a picture and head off again. The electric assist will last for about 22kilometeres before they need to be recharged. They store neatly on our bike rack and we cover them over with a plastic covering bought at a camping shop in Holland.

For shopping we have panniers on the back racks to fill up with groceries. To lock our bikes we use a Master Lock call a Python as you can see in the photo below it looks like a snake.
